Sydney Airport
Sydney Airport (SYD) is Australia’s gateway airport, serving more than 44.4 million passengers a year and connecting Sydney to a network of over 100 international, domestic and regional destinations.
Since 2019, Maynard have been engaged directly by Sydney Airport (SYD) to deliver a broad range of projects – each designed to enhance the customer experience. This work has spanned all aspects of the customer journey, from pre-planning to boarding a flight.
A refresh of the Sydney Airport brand and signage colour scheme, as well as ongoing physical changes and expansions to the airport terminals brought about the need to redesign a number of key information touchpoints including the airports signage and wayfinding system, entrance portals, supergraphics, feature walls, and bus liveries.

Sydney Airport Bus Liveries
In an effort to expand their brand articulation, Sydney Airport decided to update the liveries of their bus fleet, including both airside and landside services. They also needed a system that could be consistently applied across all products and documented in a way that would be easily adaptable to different vehicle types.
The bus liveries needed to make the vehicles easily identifiable, as well as supporting a consistent and vibrant brand experience across the Sydney Airport estate. The livery system needed to be scalable and follow a clear and sound logic so that it may easily be expanded to future products and future vehicles. The project was split into two phases; Airside and Landside services.
Creation of a design system applied to three bus service products, increasing Sydney Airport’s brand exposure whilst helping to highlight and identify bus services in a busy environment

Sydney Airport Security Upgrades
Working as part of a design team led by Architectus, Maynard was responsible for the customer experience, and wayfinding & signage component of the security upgrades at both the T1 International and T3 Domestic terminals.
Security screening areas can be stressful environments for passengers. Our aim was to minimise stress and cognitive load by decluttering the space and providing clear, straightforward directions to guide passengers through each stage of the screening process. Dynamic digital signage, integrated into the overhead lighting strip, delivers information in a more streamlined way – helping to simplify the security screening process.
