Manchester Metrolink (GMPTE) Visual System and Guideline

Metrolink is Greater Manchester’s light rail system. Two phases were built: the first opened in 1992 and ran from Altrincham to Bury. The second phase opened in 2000 and serves the Salford Quays commercial area and Eccles.

Creative work included the master network map, based on a coded system of colours for the lines, and detailed design templates for all members of the sign family. All station signs were integrated into the fabric of the architecture, and pilot schemes were used to test the proposals and collate budget costs for the wayfinding programme.
