Auckland Transport Beacons
Station beacons have been reimagined to better support mixed-modal journeys. The updated design features modular panels for wayfinding and mapping, clearly linking cycling with public transport and enhancing the visibility and viability of bike-to-train travel.

Previously static pillars, the beacons—part of Auckland Transport’s existing signage suite—have been redesigned to incorporate dynamic, interchangeable content. This includes network information, cycle maps, and connections to other transport modes, all aligned with AT’s ongoing ‘Mix Your Go’ initiative to encourage seamless multi-modal travel.

Enhancing the visibility and placemaking impact of the beacons was a key focus of the redesign. Previously, the 5m and 8m structures often went unnoticed in the urban environment. To address this, we amplified the use of colour and pattern, creating a more vibrant and engaging presence that aligns with Auckland Transport’s refreshed brand direction.
Crucially, the new design retains the original beacons’ structural foundations, reducing installation costs and complexity during rollout.
