Sturt Street Contemporary Arts Precinct

The Sturt Street Contemporary Arts Precinct is a significant destination within the Melbourne Arts Precinct, and is home to impressive landmarks such as the award winning Australian Centre for Contemporary Arts (ACCA) building, as well as the Malthouse Theatre and Chunky Move.

The surrounding area is undergoing major change as part of the Southbank Redevelopment project, including works to create an ‘Arts Spine’ along Sturt Street.

Maynard were commissioned by Creative Victoria to prepare a series of strategic and conceptual recommendations to improve the visitor experience of the precinct, through a variety of placemaking and wayfinding interventions.

There are 150,000 visitors a year to the ACCA Melbourne, which plays a critical role investing in artistic and wider communities, leading the cultural conversation and setting the agenda for contemporary art.
