The Rocks & Darling Harbour

The Rocks; steeped in rich layers of history and characterised by a tight-knit labyrinth of laneways, pubs, bars, restaurants and boutiques. Darling Harbour; an expansive, vibrant and energetic pedestrian harbourside area offering a hive of different recreational activities, entertainment and dining options.

Maynard were engaged to design and implement a new wayfinding masterplan for these two iconic Sydney precincts, both with their own distinct character and wayfinding challenges.

Cockle Bay is a 60 Hectare area of Darling Harbour; a family orientated playground for all ages, with around 26 million visitors each year.

The 26 hectare Rocks site is situated between Sydney Harbour Bridge & the Sydney Opera House. Visited by over 15 million people a year, and contributing $400m to the NSW visitors economy.

Place Management NSW (PMNSW) operate some of NSW’s premier precincts, including The Rocks (Tallawoladah) and Darling Harbour (Tumbalong).

A key challenge lay in how to create a cohesive and consistent wayfinding system which ties into the fabric of Sydney, whilst adapting to the changing calendar of events that occur throughout the year.
