Southampton Bus Stop Guidelines - Maynard

We had previously been involved with the product development of the new signage system for Southampton. Due to this successful phase of work we were commissioned by the client to develop a bus stop strategy.

The Southampton bus network is made up of a number of different operators each with their own brand style. At the time the operators were responsible for the production of timetables and display information. As a result the bus stops were visually inconsistent across the network and had become tired, visually cluttered and often with out-of-date information.

The client wanted to address this by introducing a unified approach to all bus stop display signage, linking the transport network back to the new legible city sign system. Our job was to rationalise these elements and develop a strategy that would show the Southampton bus network as one unified system.

We based our design and strategy on the visual identity that had been developed for Southampton Legible City in order to create a visually coherent family of elements and guidelines for the City’s bus infrastructure.

This is currently being successfully rolled out across the city.
