Shanghai Metro is the fifth busiest urban rapid transit system in the world and is currently experiencing an extremely rapid period of growth. Maynard was comissioned to carry out an assessment of their current wayfinding guidelines.
The objective was to implement an upgraded wayfinding system bringing Shanghai in line with ‘Best-Practice’ standards. Maynard proposed the creation of a more visible, internatioal, multilingual system that could be applied to current station refurbishements as well as carried forward for all future stations being built across the region. Key elements of the new system were produced including station layer diagrams, local area maps and platform and concourse signage.
