Brief

As London’s Docklands began to be regenerated, and as the centre of the city’s financial heart moved towards Canary Wharf, an extension of the Jubilee Line was proposed to connect central London with the South and East. From the start, under the leadership of Roland Paoletti, it was envisaged that the best talent in British architecture would be called upon to develop the station designs.

Each station on the line would be designed by a different architect, thereby introducing a diversity of styles and interest to the network. The challenge was then to create a unified product family for station environments that would meet the criteria of being fit-for-purpose, cost-effective in its whole-of-life cycle.

Julian Maynard led a dedicated team and over the course of five years was responsible for designing sourcing, manufacturing and installing a family of industrial components that has since established the Jubilee Line Extension Project as a quality benchmark in modern metro system design.

Deliverables
