Cycling is an important part of our daily routine at Maynard
As a studio we feel that cycling provides many positive benefits to our general well being, enhancing our energy levels and reducing stress by keeping us connected to the daily activity of the city. We encourage our staff to use their bike as a more sustainable, healthy and fun way of getting to work, meetings and events.
To increase our confidence on the daily commute, some of our staff recently attended the cycle maintenance course with Bikeworks UK. This was perfect timing to learn all the basics of bike repairs prior to the London Underground tube strike, which saw London commuters, flood the streets on an array of alternative transport means. The studio are now prepared and ready for the next tube strike, self-assured that we can fix a puncture, remove a wheel, calibrate brakes and adjust our gears.
As London hits a turning point for improved cycle infrastructure with schemes including Mini Holland and the East West Superhighway, the studio is excited about getting involved. Last week we were thrilled to attend the NLA Annual Cycling Summit at the Building Centre in London. The panel provided great insight into the benefits of improving the design of London’s cycle ways and how cycling can create more liveable cities with positive community outcomes. The speakers all offered inspirational visions into how designers, architects and planners can contribute further to improve London’s cycle infrastructure. The studio now hope to bring lessons learned from our involvement with cycle schemes in Southampton and Surrey back to our home city of London.
